Hi Ben, Lilac are using a porous bead coated with lithium attracting coating as their patents describe. See below. Beads have some redundancy due to impact over time (called chipping) and need some top up.
Sorbent resins lose bonding strength over time and have to be replaced. In the video David eluded to designing longer lasting resins.
