They have a large aquifer that they plan to remove Lithium from and return the treated brine. Yes this will dilute the remaining aquifer but seeing that the plan to repeat this process at scale for 25 years I would guess that dilution is not their most pressing problem. Returning brine to the aquifer is a technical problem but no one has raised this as a serious impediment to the process. Considering that the evaporation ponds are lined so that brine just doesn't seep its way back into the aquifer I imagine that the problem is not insurmountable.
