Hi dlux,
Just because a Company has a large amount of scrip issued this does not not necessarily mean anything - recapitilisation (consolidation) can always occur and imo the issuing of scrip/options etc is and always will be a bottomless pit for any Company anyways - as you can see from the following:-- Telstra Limited - 12,443,074,357 shares issued (as at 3rd July 2009)
- BHP Biliton - 3,356,081,497 shares issued (as at 3rd July 2009)
- Macquarie Office Trust - 4,584,471,814 shares issued (as at 3rd July 2009)
- Newsat Limited - 6,794,443,949 shares issued (as at 3rd July 2009)
- Fortescue Metals - 3,089,491,580 shares issued (as at 3rd July 2009)
... and the list goes on!
If a carrot (or an option) is to work it has to be achievable (and the Directors & the Staff should have a pretty good idea if it is achievable or not); what is the point of handing out options if they are going to be unachievable??? It's just going to have the opposite affect. You have to be logical!
Also, it is not like the Company is newly listed either - it is in fact Australia's oldest Oil & Gas exploration company., so it is totally understandable imo that it has collected a fair amount of scrip along its exploration journey over the years.
Cheers, Pie :)
