I think he has eeked every ounce of success out of his ability. Don't forget he is not tall compared to most of the guys on the tour and lacks the ability to kill opponents quickly, apart from around 2001 he generally has to grind them down so by the time he reaches the second week of a grand slam event he has spent too much energy.
He is one guy in the last 2 decades who can hold his head high and say he got the most out of himself. Seriously, if Hewitt's G&D was transplanted into the Scud he would have won 10 majors.
I didn't like Hewitt when he was younger but credit where it's due, he gives 100% every time.
