Flipping a coin comes down to probability. Flip it enough times and you will get close to 50%heads 50% tails. So if you flip it heads 5 times straight then the odds are getting better for a tails as you go. No guarantee though.
I once flipped a coin with a bloke and went heads all the time, thinking sooner or later a tail will come up. Double or nothing. After about 9 flips he said "Thank You I will have my money", It cost me a week's wages. I learnt a very valuable lesson that day (1977). Don't go double up.
Shares have 3 ways to go - up down and sideways. The possibilities are stack 2 to 1 against us all the time. Then you try and look for the probability of which way. The people who sort out the right direction are the people who are successful. As a stock goes up up up it becomes more risky to entry - sooner or later it will fall back. All things go in cycles.
