23:14 GMT [Dow Jones] A key global benchmark for natural gas shows no signs of recovery. The Platts Japan/Korea Marker for liquefied natural gas averages $7.395/MMBtu for August, down 2.7% from the month before. Prices are about 35% lower from a year ago because of the world-wide collapse in energy markets. August is traditionally the peak of the summer buying season because of increased power demand, but demand in northeast Asia is now "extremely slow," Platts says. Summer weather isn't strong enough to grow demand in the months to come either, Energy Aspects says. Korea is restarting two nuclear power plants, too, further damping demand. "The nuclear picture is looking decidedly bearish for LNG," Energy Aspects says. ([email protected])
