Trade Talks on for January
The U.S. and China are planning to holdmeetings in January to negotiate a broader truce in theirtrade wars but are unlikely to have any face-to-face contact before then,according to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. Speaking in a roundtableinterview Tuesday at Bloomberg’s Washington office, he said the two sides hadheld several phone conversations in recent weeks and were still in the processof planning further formal discussions. “We’re in the process ofconfirming the logistics of several meetings and we’re determined to make surethat we use the time wisely, to try to resolve this,” Mnuchin said. Both sidesare now focused on trying “to document an agreement” by a March 1 deadline fortheir current tariffs truce to run out. “We expect there will be meetings inJanuary,” he said. Previously the administration hadn’t been specific on thetiming of talks. Mnuchin also discussed freeing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac fromgovernment control, the U.S. budget deficit, and recent equity-market volatility in the wide-ranging interview.

Hopefully a positive sign for the LNG industry?

(Bloomberg) -- China signaled its openness for business with a raft of deals that’ll give oil majors including Royal Dutch Shell Plc new opportunities to develop fields in partnership with the nation’s biggest offshore explorer.
China National Offshore Oil Corp. said in Beijing on Tuesday that it had inked oil and gas accords with nine firms. The signing ceremony followed President Xi Jinping’s address to party cadres marking 40 years of reform and broadly underlining the nation’s commitment to global trade.
