Port Kembla FSRU project nearing FID

The Port Kembla gas project, the first LNG import terminal in New South Wales, has entered the last stage of preparation for the final investment decision.

The project proponent, the Australian-led consortium, Australian Industrial Energy, on Wednesday said the front-end engineering and design has been completed.

To remind, the facility will have the capacity to supply in excess of 100PJ per annum, sufficient to meet over 70 percent of NSW’s total gas needs.

Construction of the terminal is likely to require a capital investment of between $200m and $300 million, AIE said in an earlier statement.

The consortium pushing the project forward comprises Australia’s Squadron Energy and Japan’s Marubeni and Jera.

Pakistan LNG needs to increase threefold over next three to five years

Pakistan’s demand for liquefied natural gas could be set to triple in the next three to five years, according to Pakistan LNG’s chief executive.

Adnan Gilani, managing director and chief executive of Pakistan LNG, said that those figures could grow to as high as 15 million tonnes this year and up to 25 million to 30 million tonnes over the next three to five years.

Both of the country’s existing LNG terminals are currently nearly fully utilized with final investment decisions expected to be made for another two in 2019.

According to Gilani’s presentation at a conference in Singapore, the country’s two import terminals have a capacity of 1.2 billion to 1.3 billion cubic feet of gas per day, or about 9 million to 10 million tonnes of LNG a year.

He added that Pakistan was expected to negotiate a few more long-term contracts to import LNG into the country.

It is worth noting that Pakistan is currently facing a serious energy crisis with blackouts and gas supply outages that led to the sacking of heads of two main gas distribution companies in January.

Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass LNG gets DOE permit

US LNG export project developer Venture Global LNG has been granted a U.S. Department of Energy authorization to export Calcasieu Pass LNG volumes to non-free trade agreement countries.

Under the terms of the order, Venture Global LNG is authorized to export up to 620 billion cubic feet (Bcf) per year of natural gas (1.7 Bcf/day) for a period of 25 years from its facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.

The 10 MTPA nameplate Calcasieu Pass facility will employ a process solution from Baker Hughes, a GE company that utilizes mid-scale, modular, factory-fabricated liquefaction trains.

Venture Global has executed an integrated turnkey EPC contract with Kiewit to design, engineer, construct, commission, test and guarantee the Calcasieu Pass facility.
