The coal analysis by the author is a bit strange and loose, North American (needs to look at Canadian met coal as well) thermal and coking coal to China seems exceptionally price dependant usually entering the market in volume during price spikes. The North America coal industry is not strong atm and there would be a number of new mines required with variable opex required to support the authors assumptions. The shipping assumption seems to discredit the entire articles analysis on American coal.

For LNG would like to see more talk on possible drivers and projections for gas eating into thermal coal (and other forms of energy) market share that’s already happened in Europe.
