Chinese pair, China Huadian and Guanghui Energy shave agreed to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving and storage facility in Yueyang city on the Yangtze river.
Named the Yueyang LNG terminal, the project will be developed in three phases at a cost of 1.99 billion Chinese yuan ($293.2 million), Guanghui Energy said in a filing to disallowed.
In the first phase, the LNG receiving terminal will have the capacity to handle 500,000 tons of the chilled fuel while this capacity would be expanded to 1 million tons per year and then 2 million tons per year in the second and third stage of development.
At full buildout, it will handle 2 mtpa, have four 20,000-cbm storage tanks, and an LNG receiving dock with two 10,000-cbm LNG loading berths, three 5,000-cbm loading berths and one workboat berth at an area covering a 1.2 kilometers of the Yangtze river coastline in the Hunan province’s Yueyang city.
Liquefied natural gas will be supplied to the Yueyang LNG terminal from Guanghui Energy’s other LNG receiving terminal at the estuary of the Yangtze River in Qidong City.
With the capacity of the terminal expected to reach up to 10 mtpa by 2022, it would provide ample supply for the Yueyang LNG facility the company said.
The first phase of the project is expected to come online by the end of December 2020, the filing reads.

Taiwan imported 7.16 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the January-May period, up 11.1 percent from the same period a year before, according to the customs data.
Qatar, the world’s largest LNG exporter remained the biggest supplier of the fuel to Taiwan in the period under review with 2.26 million tonnes. These volumes rose 5.4 percent on year, the data by the Directorate General of Customs shows.
Malaysia was the second-biggest supplier of LNG to Taiwan in the January-May period with 1.18 million tonnes, followed by Russia that supplied 0.89 million tonnes while Australia delivered 0.88 million tonnes of the chilled fuel to Taiwan.
The rest of the LNG imports came from Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Brunei, Trinidad and Tobago, US, Nigeria, Oman and Angola.
Taiwan, the world’s fifth largest LNG buyer, paid about $3.12 billion for these LNG imports as compared to $2.49 billion in 2017, according to the data.

Imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) into China during the month of June have risen compared to the corresponding period last year.
The country that is pursuing the switch from coal to natural gas for heating and industrial purposes, saw its June LNG imports reach 3.97 million tonnes, 31.3 percent above the volumes imported in the corresponding month last year, data from the General Administration of Customs shows.
The data shows that LNG imports for the first six months reached 23.81 million tonnes.
This is a 50.3 percent increase compared to the January-June period in 2017.
