Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) and Energy Resources of Ukraine have been contracted to supply natural gas to Ukrtransgaz, Ukrainian gas transmission network and storage facilities operator.

The two companies will supply more than 200 million cubic meters of gas from October 2018 until May 1, 2019, exclusively for Ukrtransgaz’s own needs, PGNiG said in its statement.

Maciej Woźniak, Vice-President for Trade, PGNiG noted the company has been building its position in the Ukrainian market since 2016.

“We already supply our customers with gas from diverse sources and geographies, including LNG from Qatar, USA or Norway, gas from other European markets, and gas produced by PGNiG in Poland. I am sure that once the Baltic Pipe is brought on stream to transmit gas from Norway to Poland, our position as a reliable and competitive supplier in the region will strengthen markedly,” he said.

Since August 2016 till the end of June 2018, PGNiG has exported more than 1.3 bcm of natural gas to Ukraine partnering with ERU in the market.

The companies commenced their gas supplies to Ukrtransgaz in April 2017.

Russia’s largest independent natural gas producer and LNG operator, Novatek has signed a partnership and cooperation deal with German engineering giant Siemens.

Under the deal signed on Wednesday, the duo plans to strengthen and develop the strategic partnership and cooperation in various fields.

This includes integrated gas-to-power projects on a “turn-key” basis inclusive of LNG supply, downstream and power generation, large-, mid- and small-scale LNG liquefaction plants and other topics of mutual interest, according to a Novatek statement.

“Novatek plans to significantly increase production of natural gas and LNG, and we are interested in developing the whole natural gas value chain to enhance the competitive advantages of our scalable low-cost LNG projects.” Leonid Mikhelson, Novatek’s chief said in the statement.

“We are satisfied with our experience of working with Siemens as a reliable contractor providing equipment to our Yamal LNG project, and we are going to expand this cooperation not only in Russian Federation, but also in other countries,” Mikhelson added.

Novatek is currently only exporting LNG from its giant Yamal project in the Russian Arctic.

However, the company is planning several additional projects, including the Arctic LNG 2 project, which could place Novatek in a group of world’s largest producers of the fuel as a single company by 2030.

Australian liquefied natural gas exports fetched $31 billion during the 2017-2018 period, with 62 million tons exported during the period.

The figures made LNG the country’s third largest resource and energy export, the country’s Department of Industry, Innovation and Science shows in its quarterly report.

Export volumes rose 18 percent over the 2016-2017 volumes the report shows, with prices increasing as the oil prices recovered.

Looking forward, Australia’s LNG export earnings are forecast to increase by 57 percent to $48 billion in 2018–19 and remain around this level in 2019–20.

The continuous rise in oil prices is also expected to bump the prices of Australian LNG for the forecasted period before settling in 2019-2020, according to the report.

Australia’s LNG export volumes are forecast to reach 77 million tonnes in 2019–20, up from 62 million tonnes in 2017–18. Higher export volumes will be driven by the ramp-up of production at Wheatstone, and the completion of the Ichthys and Prelude projects.

French LNG operator Elengy, a unit of the energy giant Engie, said its Montoir-de-Bretagne terminal hit a new activity record during the month of September.

According to the operator, the facility received fifteen liquefied natural gas carriers during the month for six transshipment operations, two unloadings and one reload operation during the month.

The activity beats the previous record set in August when Montoir-de-Bretagne LNG terminal saw 13 LNG carriers dock during the month.

The operator noted the milestone has been achieved despite scheduled maintenance that took place at the beginning of September.
