Seems the royal commission into unions is the key cause of the trend reversal and and Shortens links to the AWU has gained traction.
Interestingly a majority of people support the royal commission including a majority of Labor voters. They all want the bad eggs flushed out. Watso will be happy the trend has changed but he makes the point that such polls are not indicative of what will happen in two and half years time. Well any sensible person would acknowledge that polls are just a snapshot of voter intent as at the dates the poll was taken, but they are still a good guide as to the prevailing sentiment at that time.
The strategy of calling a royal commission has worked remarkably well for the coalition. It has struck a chord with voters and has dealt a blow to Shorten because of his past links. It has broken the strong trend to Labor. Good balanced article by the Sydney Morning Herald. Abbotts disapproval rating also remains high but the slump for Shorten is the biggest factor.
Intriguing though that in spite of this, a majority of those polled do not agree workers entitlements ought to be reduced. This from the smh:
"Asked if they agreed that ''workers' entitlements and conditions need to be reduced to make Australian companies more competitive'', 58 per cent said no."
