When the tsnuami of qld govt instigated inciting PR began against Cougar the very day the last Federal Election was called there was absolutely nothing Cougar could have done.

Making an environmental example of Cougar was all about winning Greens preferences in Qld seats in the Federal election. Not one federal labor seat in QLd was won on primary votes. All Qld Federal seats were won on Greens preferences. Had just one more Federal seat fallen to another major party, Julia Gillard would never have been PM. Something like 6 weeks after the new Federal Govt was sworn in, long delayed approvals for Gladstone LNG arrived. Gratitude sometimes doesn't work in mysterious ways imo.

Cougar did whatever it took to stay afloat, and survuved that tsunami ... sufficent funds were raised as needed ... other projects and oportunities are being considered ... a solid case for damages has been launched against the Qld govt ... seriously, it is hard to imagine how timelines could have been much different.

I don't think Cougar management have put a foot wrong since the Qld Govt singled them out for reasons other than as stated. Very measured, very determined, no retaliatory comments on record that can bite them.

Campbell Newman as incoming Qld Premier will be looking for different PR and different mileage from the Cougar case as he seeks to bury Qld Labor so deep in it they won't see the light of government for a decade or more.

Far from being over, it is about to get interesting again thanks to there being an early Qld Election.
