Not the financial investors and offshoreutilities which own most of the country’s wind and solar farms, and we’rerelying on to keep developing.

Not the groups with the big transition funds –the Macquaries and Brookfields of the world – which get most of their moneyfrom offshore pension funds and are more interested in renewables.
We’ve asked major players in each of thosegroups in the past fortnight, and there is zero interest. They are not eventalking about it.
They don’t see how a nuclear sector could beviable given the costs associated with building a plant and the prices neededto recover that cost (and more) in wholesale electricity markets.
It would have to come back to the government,either funding the development directly or guaranteeing the price at whichsomeone else could sell that power into the national electricity market. That’sa big liability.
CSIRO’s report, which found a large-scale reactor’s energy would costone-and-a-half to twice as much as firmed renewable energy, didn’t help to entice the capital allocators.
There is a saying that is popping up aroundthe energy transition debate: Capital is a coward. Deep-pocketed investors willonly flock in where there’s a good chance of making a decent risk-adjustedreturn and, for now at least, that’s in renewables.
That’s why Brookfield wanted to spend morethan $10 billion on Origin’s energy markets business, why the Forrests spent $4 billion-plus on developer CWP Renewables(now Squadron Energy), and why a consortium including the Future Fund and QIC paid $3 billion for Tilt Renewables. None are talking about backing nuclear power in Australia.

no institution is going to be interested in investing in an industry with a global 120% cost overrun average in a place like Oz with it’s big project record and no resources for such projects

it’s ridiculous and will be treated like a case of VD
