The Australian Syngas Association congratulated LNP on its commitment to a balanced economic, environmental and social performance for Queensland. LNP leader Campbell Newman unveiled his party’s Resources and Energy Strategy at a recent resources sector event.

ASA President Peter Bond acknowledged the commitment to support the existing approved UCG technology trials in the State.

“I applaud Mr. Newman and his party for their foresight in recognising the huge potential of a new energy source for Queensland with a balanced approach of strictly monitored conditions and appropriate locations” Mr. Bond Said.

Modern computer, geological and other technological advances have enabled this industry to provide energy from uneconomic coal reserves with minimal environmental and social impact.
“The Syngas industry takes its social license to operate seriously and has been working diligently with regulatory bodies over the past ten years with the intent of passing the community interest test with flying colours”.

In its recent World Energy Outlook publication, the International Energy Agency highlighted the need for non-conventional sources of energy as we move into the future. These energy sources stand to particularly contribute to the needs of the developing world.

With its commitment to support the UCG industry, LNP has clearly demonstrated that its vision for the State’s energy future is in sync with the global leadership.

LNP has launched a robust policy platform for the resources sector in general and the UCG industry in particular.

“ASA looks forward to working with the LNP into the future. It is a great sign for Queensland that the LNP is committed to putting science and merit ahead of politics for the sake of this State’s energy future”.
