South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham (centre) visiting Alexium's U.S. facilities.
Alexium International (ASX:AJX, OTCQX:AXXIY) has hosted a site visit by influential South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham to its facilities in the U.S., showcasing its fire retardant chemistries for military fabrics and work it had done so far with the Armed Forces.
Senator Graham currently sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Committee on Armed Services, the Budget Committee, and the Committee on the Judiciary.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and is currently the only Senator who still serves in the Air Force Reserves.
The Senator had expressed an interest in visiting Alexium to see the applications lab and products it is developing following the successful visit by South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy.
During the site visit, Senator Graham met with employees to discuss the benefits of the company’s flame retardant and chem/bio protection chemistries and the role that Alexium is playing in providing eco-friendly treatments.
“It was a privilege to host Senator Graham at Alexium today,” chief executive officer Nicholas Clark said.
"It was a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase the benefits of our FR chemistries and for him to see the advantages of our chemistry versus the treatments currently used in the military.”
Alexium’s novel, eco-friendly fire retardant chemistry for multiple textile applications, including those used for military fabrics, are free of halogen, heavy metals and formaldehyde.
They allow the company to capitalise on the withdrawal or banning of many traditional FR chemistries for textiles due to the evidence of toxicity of halogenated compounds.
Senator Graham's visit shows a commitment to supporting companies that produce environmentally friendly chemicals and gave Alexium the opportunity to demonstrate that its products are both safe and effective.
Alexium had $4.2 million in cash at hand as at 30 June 2014.
