Options expire on the date that was set and that's it. The only way they don't is if the shareholders formally approve an extension. I have seen this done retrospectively but only in a case where there was other restructuring of the company shares at the same time. If another party wants in later & the company wants more money, it's a new issue requiring all new approvals.
