I have just driven from perth to derby and the trip has opened my eyes to the key subject of distance with mining projects. I travelled past many famous mine turnoffs along the Great Northern hwy including sandfires degrussa operation. By the time I reached this turn off I had blown through nearly $300 in diesel. The majority of vehicles on the road are 4 trailered ore carriers moving all different types of minerals. (By the way these blokes are fantastic, courteous drivers) It became apparent to me how important rex's location to a close port, with all the other benefits of power etc are to the ongoing costs of the project. I can't imagine what the employee and transport costs are for these operations, but to be able to sit back and watch some of your production sluice through a pipe to port will be a very satisfying part of this project. Why Rex has not yet been taken out is beyond me.
