Lock the Gates are at the NGP

This year, there are plans for a huge new gas pipeline across hundreds of kilometres of Aussie outback, which provides habitat for many precious and iconic Australian animals. It will stretch all the way from Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory to Mount Isa in Queensland.
The Federal Environment Department states that the proposed gas pipeline is likely to have a significant impact on the iconic Bilby and the stunning Gouldian finch: both federally-listed threatened species.

The company behind the plan, Jemena, is moving at break-neck speed to get its approvals and get the pipeline built. We're worried the Bilby and the Finch will just become collateral damage. Can you chip in to help us stop this juggernaut?
Your support will enable us to get wildlife experts to review the impacts of the proposed pipeline on threatened species along the route, and to get advice about the legal validity of the plan.

These little creatures can’t afford legal advice without your help. They have no head for the law, so they need some human experts!
And it’s not just our unique Aussie animals at risk. This gas pipeline is designed to open up the Northern Territory to a shale gas fracking bonanza, with thousands of gas wells needed if the industry gets going.
The gas industry seems to have the Territory in its sights as the next big target for vast quantities of export gas. If we don't act now on the pipeline threat, the whole Territory will pay the price.
Territory communities have come out strongly against fracking, but this pipeline puts their future at risk. Sadly, our Governments have a bad track record of opening the floodgates on inappropriate mining when they think they can get away with it.
