    I think it was the best decision at the time.


    I was military and I was exactly what they would have chosen for the task

    and I tell you - civilian contractors should do a better job

    we were not trained for security.


    Also, in this case, you have society and political considerations


    You do NOT use military for security and people control purposes unless you absolutely have to


    It is NOT good to have soldiers in public controlling people

    it sends a message - not a good one and the last thing you need is people to get touchy about threats to democracy etc.


    It’s exactly the same as do you or don’t you allow peaceful assembly


    The last thing you want is a riot where people force their way onto the streets and you try to force them off and you have a giant shitfight


    It’s better to allow a peaceful protest with agreement for social distancing and all seating masks etc. - that is if you cannot talk people out of it
