Re "There have now been 32,421 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 2,324 coronavirus-related deaths on the island of Ireland."
4,903,000 million people in Ireland. So as Ireland teeters on the brink of a miserable recession, let's look at the number of deaths by age.
Nearly 80% of the deaths are aged over 75.
Total number of deaths under the age of 54 is 45. 45 deaths represents under 0.001% of the population, or, put another way, 1 death of someone under 54 per 100,000.
It is the same story, every nation needs to care more about its older fellow citizens in residential care. If we are going to spend money wisely, then pour it into the preventative measures around the care of our elderly, but let healthy people work and school children go to school and live their lives.
