VW I think your vision of the future is probably on the money - apart from the time frame . Only new cars will be electric , and a large percentage of the population own old second hand cars. It will take longer than a decade to wipe the existing commuter fleet clean of the internal combustion engine. Petrol heads will want to drive round in their V8's or Harleys . They will be wanting service stations for at least the next twenty-thirty years regardless of the success of fully electric vehicles. Also heavy transport will be running on gas and diesel for some time to come even if commuters aren't. Its not that your vision won't happen, I just don't see that it can negate the need for service stations especially outside the big cities for some time yet. I also have some doubt that the energy density of batteries are increasing as fast as your predicted time scales would require.
