    Hey guys

Background gas is your level of gas you see when drilling through non-reservoir rocks. Through most of the well it will be a fraction of a percent. In our case it went up to 2-3% in the non-reservoir Jurassic. It is basically a base line to measure any spikes in gas. When they then drill through a sand it will spike up (10-20% as an example) before coming back down when they are back into poorer quality rocks. They didn't mention it in this release as if you have LWD logs, then the BG gas is not really that important. You get much more information from the log data than you do from the gas readings, which can be misleading depending on the density of the drilling fluid. Hence in this release they said the LWD logs were indicating that hydrocarbons were present.

They won't have any information about condensate yet, and they will not get any till they take fluid samples. At the moment in the reservoir, all the hydrocarbons are gas (I'm presuming this isn't a surprise oil discovery). When that gas is exposed to lower pressure, ie. as it is brought to the surface, the condensate components of the gas drop out, or condense, into liquids. It's the same process that forms dew on your lawn.

10m gas sand is certainly an exciting start. Just need to hope that the remaining interpreted sands are indeed present.
