There is zero difference in terms of physical properties or chemical composition of natural and man-made diamonds. De Beers knows that.
The only way to tell is detecting a certain impurity associated with the natural diamonds mined at a certain location on earth. Man-made diamonds mostly brilliant and less impurity and flaws.
Valuation of diamond is now mostly based on the history of the stone, skillful cut and rarity.
