I have friends that reside in outer London and talking to them on the weekend you get the feel that the issue, like in Australia is compounded by negative media and government reports.

They continue to go out and take european holidays and both are school teachers. They are able to continue to live, eat and socialise without too much concern. This may change but to-date the only part they believe is feelign the main pressure is the finance segment which you could argue was due for a clean out...

Although times are tough, globally, I think the media plays on the fears of people forcing spending to decrease.

Retail sales 'realistically' are inevitably due for an increase particularly in Australia. We still havn't changed our spending habits and retail sales in Australia I think will continue to rise as they will in the US, UK and most of Europe.

Government fiscal policies will start to help, and I think we will be rather surprised over the coming months.

As sad as the recent bushfires were/are, the media thinks Christmas has come 10 months early.....
