say the price starts rallying.... are all the shorters then in a frenzy to buy at the lowest possible price, scrambling to cover themselves and driving up the price further? in net terms then, they have no effect on the SP endpoint, all they do is contribute to volatility since what they sell, they must eventually buy back hoping to make a profit. basically just gambling.... doesnt appear to be sound investing strategy!
