Hey buddy,
I'm and engineer too, and I take offence to your generalised statement about engineers. When making decision tree analyses, there is always a leg labeled "do nothing". Sometimes after rigorous analyses and modelling and that "do nothing" leg proves to have the best payoff - then the rational decision to take is, indeed DO NOTHING.
Only worry warts with ants in their pants have a great need to do something regardless of the outcome of the analyses...oh! politicians and virtue signalers too as they need to be SEEN to be DOING SONMETHING
