I think Gandel and Chalmers just do things the way they do things because that’s the way they’ve always done things, and they are too old to change. Also, IMO Nick Earner has a personality that is more suited to roles in middle management. He does not come across as a natural leader, and I expect that is at least partly to blame for his not having secured any significant institutional investment in ALK to date. The whole dynamic with Gandel thinking he owns the company and a managing director who will never challenge or override him is problematic for shareholders.
