If Australia wants to embark on a nation building project then surely a railway from Longreach to the Pilbara is the answer.
    Justification:
    (a) This railway will connect the Iron ore mines of the Pilbara with the Met coal mines of Queensland & provide an infrastructure base for Australia to be the biggest steel maker in the world.
    (b) China is forging ahead with a China to Europe railway & highway system so why cane we do a mini version of that here in Aus?
    (c) We have spent $60 billion on a silly NBN which will obsolete within a decade due to 5G
    (d) Our ancestors forged a railway across Australia connecting Sydney & Perth over a hundred years ago (when the Poms owned us)
    (e) Distance from Longreach to the Pilbara = 2400 Klms (China has built 36,000 Ks of high speed rail in the past decade!
    (f) We have racked up $trillion debt over the past decade ( Commonwealth, State & Municipal) with nothing to show for it except an obsolescent NBN

The detractors will say we cant do it ( cant bat, cant bowl brigade) but if our ancestors had a similar opinion we would'nt have our current rail network
or the Snowy Mountain Hydro Scheme! Perhaps we'll have to leave it until we become a Chinese Colony and the Chinese will do it for us...eh?
Except we'll be the Coolies then !
