FTSE 100 movers: Lonmin up on Xstrata chatter Date: Tuesday 13 Oct 2009
LONDON (ShareCast) - Lonmin has raced to the top of the to FTSE 100 leaderboard on renewed talk that Xstrata drop its bid for Anglo American and turn its attention to the platinum miner.
Xstrata already owns ha a 25% stake already following an earlier bid attempt and is likely to find its £3bn market value easier to absorb than Anglo American, analysts suggested.
Whitbread continues to please with its fans with its latest trading update with the the improving trend at the companys Premier Inn hotel business being the most positive aspect, brokers' suggested.
Panmure Gordon remains an advocate of buying the shares, however, and has lifted its target price from 1270p to 1470p, and bumped up its earnings forecasts by around 10% on the basis of higher margin assumptions.
