Drones won't have an impact any time soon .. the drones required to map cities are worth big $$'s - look at things like the Insitu ScanEagles.

And even then .. Spookfish just deploy those instead of full size aircraft.

The imaging tech is catching up - but again - the cameras are helluva exensive - PhaseOne body only will set you back ~ $80k+ .. and at decent flying heights you are still around the 5cm GSD mark.

Improved cameras might mean higher-res GSD .. eg getting 2cm imagery .. and the processing is always playing catchup.

We are processing jobs with photo counts in the order of 20,000+ pretty regularly now .. at 5 - 7mm GSD from drones .. but we are covering a shopping centre .. not a suburb .. certainly not a city.

Everything is always moving .. camera spec keeps going up .. GPS and inertial units keep getting more accurate .. gigapixel count keeps going up .. coverage gets more regular .. processing still takes weeks .. the product gets better at the same price points.

The bigger players will have no trouble staying in front of the drone market.
