Devil's advocate - if anything it is the processing to 3D models that is the problem. I have heard rumours of the sort of numbers of Amazon GPU-enabled nodes that Nearmap are running or at least might need to run .. and seen the models .. processing is not easy .. give you the tip! We built a $200k cluster to process stuff .. and we aren't processing anywhere NEAR the amount of pixels these guys want to push. Capture is one thing .. meshing it is a massive challenge at this scale .. then actually selling the mesh/pointsclouds/DEM etc is the next trick.
