CHEVRON says it has made a new gas discovery offshore Western Australia that will help feed the proposed $43 billion Gorgon liquefied natural gas project.
Chevron, which is operator and 50 per cent-owner of Gorgon, said the Achilles-1 exploration well encountered about 100 metres of net gas pay over a 4500 metre total depth.
The discovery will "build on the supply that underpins the projected 40-year life of the Gorgon project," Chevron says.
The find follows discoveries by Chevron last year at exploration drills Clio-2 and Kentish Knock-1, also offshore Western Australia. Chevron says it is spudding an additional well, Satyr-1, which is in the same permit as Achilles-1.
