1. Its US business has been going through a major transition under new management. The company is also undertaking a cost-out program, which should improve combined operation ratios. QBE’s claims environment has also been relatively benign, which places it in a better position to meet earnings guidance.
2. Following uneventful hurricane and crop seasons, QBE will likely have scope to strengthen the balance sheet at the 2013 financial year result through boosting risk margins back to, or above, 90 per cent.
