I'm sure 50% came from the introduction of programmes such as metastock and others - the actual structure of the original nos. was 1,1,2,3,5 and so forth - each successive no. is the sum of the two before it - subsequently each no. is about 1.618 times the preceeding and each no. is about .618 the no. following it.
I've noticed that support levels and or changes in direction do occur sometimes at these levels but have never been convinced that they are independent of previous levels set by chart (and investor/trader) action - the thing that lets Fibonacci down for me is the expansion of the principle into "time frames" and "arcs" - price levels I can sometimes go along with - not the rest.
Anyway - got wordy again - sorry - I enjoy the charts with fib. discussion, I might be convinced yet.
