In Japan if a motorist hits a pedestrian - even if that pedestrian is drunk and lying on the road - the motorist is obliged to take financial care of that pedestrian and his family until he/she has fully recovered.
Mind you, if he/she dies, the ongoing care to family is literally ongoing.
If you're broke, go to Japan and lie on the road !!
Mind you, on that same basis, if you stumble and fall on an elevator, or train platform etc, the local people will tend to just walk around you rather than to get involved by trying to help.
