In my experience there is usually weakness in stocks before end of financial year as investors (or more often traders) often like to realise gains or losses depending on their situation. All things being equal the stock then picks up again after financial year as investors regain their position. Obviously doesn't happen to all stocks but seems to be more prevalent in stocks which have had major movements in the year.
I too am unsure how end of year selling actually increases the price of a stock but I'm willing to learn.
