If these bots are working for a short position, then at some point they have to cover.

If I were one of those sneaky short funds, I'd be covering before the end of the month because I know i'll find a willing seller over the next week.
It is also possible they could get caught with their pants down if MPO went into a trading halt for a material transaction. Considering the risks to being short with that deal floating around, it makes you wonder whether they must know where it is up to?

Unfortunately I supoose we can expect some more downward pressure today.
