Absolutely would love to hear Lynas becoming acquisitive, but they don't have the maneuverability under current Japanese capex restrictions. They must pay down debt to Japanese to a substantially lower level. Could happen fairly quickly if prices remain at present level and virus clears to allow 100% operations (currently just 75%).
For sure Lynas needs NORM-free REE concentrates to process and refine in Malaysia after mid-2023 per current gov req. Inputs could be magnet waste in large volume or suitable concentrates.
I would like to see a industrial consortium from EU/NA (similar to Japan model) securing and underwriting ROW REE development. With Canada aiming to build an REE separation facility, there are hints of action.
