Not disagreeing with you Gooch - totally agree that those making the decisions will do everything to maintain inflation and that will drive Gold higher.
But I sense another undercurrent
Inflation - serves the wealthy 5% who own the most and consume the most - it is not great if you own bugger all and have sick children.
Deflation - does not hurt the really poor that much as they have bugger all to loose.
Our systems are in trouble and a collapse may lead to a whole new way of allocating and distributing resources.
History repeating does not mean that the future is predictable. In a complex system one mistake can wipe out 999999 correct ones.
