JohhnyB, internet forums are neither a good place nor bad place to seek advice, and yet they are also both. I am sure there are a myriad of people (myself included) who have learnt something from someone else’s post, or link. On the other hand, there are a myriad of people (myself included) that have wasted their time on pointless reading of stupid posts. It is what you make it to be. If you post the sort of drivel that you’ve been posting in the past, then of course your view is that everyone thinks like you, and with confirmation bias you then seek out more amigos to add to your brood. But if more posters put thought and effort into their posts, and applied reason and not emotion, then forums like HC will become an even better place for the exchange of ideas and knowledge.
It’s a shame that you sold out of all your graphite stocks today at a “$78 loss”, particularly given that only yesterday afternoon you were saying that MNS was going to be a “gold coin price” post JORC and it highlights the point I have been trying to make for some time about skittish traders. If you are going to put your hard earned money into a company, my view is that you should think like an investor, not a trader. And when you make an investment, you don’t allow the actions of skittish traders to scare you into making a bad decision to sell early. By all means, sell investments to recover the capital if new information comes to light that requires a rethink of your investment, however in the absence of that information, why would you sell just because some other sellers are getting jumpy.
Or, let’s put it a way that most people would understand, if your neighbour has the same house as you, and dumps it at 50% of it’s value because he’s scared of the indochineseeuropean market, does that mean you will follow? In the absence of an urgent need for the money, then almost everyone will say “no, I’ll sit tight, and let the market movements wash over”.
I am certainly bullish about the long term prospects of my significant investment. I don’t make any apologies for that, and time and again I post my reasoning. The downside of these forums, is not the forum itself, but the poster with $3K of drinking money invested in a stock, thinking they have done all the research they need to do. If you haven’t done enough research to invest a house on your investment, then why would you invest a portion of that house? Either do more research to understand your investment and have confidence in it, or walk away and don’t put anything in. And key to all that, is not letting other people scare you into selling out if your reasoning hasn't changed with new information.
