Perhaps one way we should also look at it : what were the periods when GQG (or Vontobel) under-performed and why ? If I am not wrong, they had a period of bad performance last year. Main reason I could see was that Rajiv decided to largely decrease its exposure on tech, while the tech sector continued to increase for a large part of the year.
For this year, I find that his sector selection is quite impressive, avoiding the main declining sectors and identifying the right sectors. While there have been so few sectors which are increasing YTD in S&P 500, he has been able to identify early the oil and tobacco sectors and took a significant exposure in both sectors.
