    Lord Howe Island is still there yet our pacific neighbours tell us their islands are being swallowed by the sea. i wonder if tectonic plates have something to do with unstable pacific islands.

    Swim instructor aims to increase opportunities for children on remote Lord Howe Island

    Lord Howe Island is surrounded by plentiful swimming opportunities in clear waters among tropical reefs, yet for children growing up on the World Heritage-listed isle, access to swimming lessons is limited.

    Its remote location, about 600 kilometres from Port Macquarie on the New South Wales' Mid North Coast, and lack of a public pool has meant access to regular swimming lessons for primary school children have been hard to come by.

    And until recently, no ongoing lessons were available for younger children.

    The island's kids are ocean aware thanks to a Nippers program, but instruction in stroke technique was needed.

    It was the perfect opportunity with an ABC crew reporting on the situation for islanders to lament the fact that their island was being swallowed by the sea.and ask for compensation. That didn't happen.
