There is nothing dreamed up about the layoffs
The articles in the weekend papers state that IAS had laid off many of the large bets with other bookies because they were made on outsiders with large odds and if they won would have wipped IAS out.
Laying off the bets which is common practice reduces the risk but also reduce the gain from losing bets.
