I believe that the ATO doesn't accept selling to a related party to merely incur a capital loss. I tried it once and it didn't work. Even if you don't intend to buy it back (viewed as a wash sale) they might not allow it. Of course speak to your tax advisor/accountant to clarify before pursuing this option.
