loss from discontinued operation?

I wonder if someone can explain the loss from discontinued operations associated with Cape Crushing.

Is it a matter of having the balance sheet reflect the loss of Cape from the list of company assets? If so, doesn't the money that came in from it defray that cost?

Most of the loss is due to the Cape issue, and it confuses me that selling something seems to show up as a dead loss on the full year result. Or have I been reading this wrong?

(I've long kept the faith with VDM. I participated in the capital raising and was impressed with management when they were quick to get back to me, but it always seems like there is something going wrong with the stock. I used to see it as a company that I could get into when the market kicked it around, before riding it back up, but now I'm starting to see it as a trading stock.)
