trading halts are requested by the company to the ASX to cease trading of their stock and preceeds the ann of price sensative info. They usuall result in the build up of interest in the buy depth and create a frenzy. Once the trading halt is removed, which can take several days (once ann is issued) the price either takes off or plumets dep on ann. It is bad for day traders who over extend as they need to settle the following day. if the halt last a few days they cannot settle and need to fund their over purchase. This kicked many traders in recent times (thankfully not me...Yet)
