Buddy - in a perfect world their jobs would be on the line. In reality thats not the case, the directors are tied up enough with a few major shareholders that removing them is a very difficult task.
Because undirected proxies are voted by the directors the general apathy of many shareholders ensures the protection of the directors interests. Thats something that could only change from much higher powers, until then you are kidding yourself if you think you are able to put the directors on notice about anything.
In the end its the quality of management that needs to be an overriding factor when choosing investments in this sector, the quality of the assets is really secondary. I wish I had realised that when I made some of my early investments that I did purely on geological potential (GGY being one).
