Thanks for posting the interview. It serves as a great reminder of the potential of BrainChip and its applications. It is also a good interview for those who want to learn what BrainChip actually does.

As per Louis, BrainChip has "the ability to bring compute to the edge, where the sensor is - it could be touch, it could be sound, it could be vision - but bringing that ability to do the analytics at the point of acquisition rather than sending all of the data back to some central processing unit [which is not good because of its] power consumption, it's power hungry, it takes up bandwidth".

"It transcends so many marketplaces. Bringing the ability to do analytics at the edge, whether it is autonomous vehicles, called smart transportation, preventative maintenance which we're working with a company in Australia that is looking at how do we analyse the vibrations in a rail system to know that something is wrong before something bad happens ... Another application that we are working on is ... volatile organic compounds. If you have a sensor, an artificial intelligence engine such as we have, you could diagnose almost like a breathalyzer: COVID-19, H1M1. The original thesis was around early diagnosis of cancers; breast cancer, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancers".

"Somewhat of our focus ... but we're really looking at beneficial artificial intelligence. How do we take what we know how to do, and we do know how to do it, we have silicon in hand, how do we utilise that or leverage that to improve the human condition".

"Our primary missions, in beneficial AI, it's really about search and rescue, drones can be used for lots of things, we have hurricanes, we have floods, we have fires. Search and rescue is a great mission for us to pursue". Later in the interview, "... we have wildfires going on everywhere, so what we have is drones flying overhead simply looking for people that might be stranded, sitting on their rooftops waiting for search and rescue operation".

In response to being asked about applications in India, Louis responds, "the ability to take artificial intelligence ... to take this technology and transcend all of the language barriers, all of the regional barriers and bring great health care at a very low cost, inexpensive let's say ... an enormous contribution that we could make ... The idea of making train transportation safer, airline transportation safer ... the ability to do that autonomously ... smart health, smart transportation, smart city ... it's not only civil surveillance, it's also energy management - how do we distribute energy?". Clearly, these applications would not be limited exclusively to India.

When asked about the projects in India and future plans there, Louis said, "Hyderabad has a very deep and sophisticated software development environment. So, as we commercialise Akida ... there's a whole bunch of stuff that has to happen ... [in addition to the hardware] you need to have a whole lot of software so that the interface with customers is very user friendly ... The team there will essentially develop all of the software drivers ... that is our first step ... in the future, we start to build a sales and marketing presence in addition to an engineering presence".

My first take away from this interview is the information about working with a company in Australia to analyse vibrations in a rail system. Unless, I have missed it, I haven't heard him mention this before. My second take away from the interview is Louis' focus on beneficial artificial intelligence. If you watch the video closely, at the point that he says "we do know how to do it, we have silicon in hand", he has a grin and a look of self-assuredness on his face. Finally, when talking about Hyderabad, he again mentions the all important notion of commercialisation of Akida. The manner in which he speaks and the positivity he exudes seems to indicate that the foundation for commercialisation is being set up and consolidated now rather than being some pie in the sky pipe dream.
