re: huge gains comming I dont know if I would want to compare this with ALD. Diffenreces : ALD is mainly open cut oxide if I recall in easy to grind ore but thats really the only advantages, as there are environmental disposal problems with tailings for ALD who seem to think they can just dump the tailings into a deep trough in the sea!
The actual OPEX for ALD are significantly higher than for IBR which implies a less robust economic mining scenario.
ALDs main advantage is PR remember the other off shoot from their parent company is FMG
